There have been 249 reports of corona, out of which only 8 patients have got the Omicron variant. - Dainik Bhaskar

There have been 249 reports of corona, out of which only 8 patients have got the Omicron variant.

Like the whole country, in Chhattisgarh too, with the onset of the third wave from December last year, the name of the Omicron variant of Kovid got on everyone’s tongue. The doctors have made a kind of announcement on the basis of speculation that the third wave will come through the Omicron variant, which has a very high spread. The third wave started roughly around December 15 in the state and during this time the first sample from here was sent to Bhubaneshwar lab for variant testing in anticipation of Omicron. Since then, about 450 samples have been sent from the capital-state to Bhubaneswar lab, out of which 249 reports have been received, 201 are waiting.

But only 8 of these patients have found the Omicron variant. The delta variant, which caused panic in the second wave, has outstripped Omicron by almost 7 times this time too. Rest of the 187 variants are different like the full range of AY, B.1. These are not considered fatal. There was a fear about Omicron, which is now almost over. According to Bhaskar’s investigation, only 8 cases of Omicron are reported in the state between December 2021 and January 17, 2022.

A new protocol created due to Omicron
The system that has been made by the Union Health Ministry to test the variants since the initiative wave of Corona. Under this, states are required to send only up to 5 percent of the RTPCR test samples of people who have come positive under the protocol in 6 different situations at an interval of 15 days every month. From the first wave to the third wave, more than 3795 samples have been sent so far. So far, more than 4 thousand samples have been sent for advance investigation in our state. The protocol for sending samples has been in place since Omicron.

In this, genome sequencing investigation of all such people coming from abroad who have come positive has been made necessary. Genome sequencing has to be done in any one cluster where more cases are being found. Those people who come positive after applying both the doses of the vaccine, then their samples are also to be sent. There is no cost to test the variant in a lab authorized by ICMR. That is, the Kovid genome test is being done free. The samples are sent by courier and the central government is also bearing their cost. According to experts, if the genome test is done in private, then it can cost up to 5-10 thousand rupees.

Out of which Omicron feared samples were being sent continuously to Bhubaneswar, 249 reports have been received, out of which only 2 percent (1.77) have turned out to be Omicron variant. The Delta variant is still getting the most. Omicron was found in only 3 people who came from abroad, the remaining 5 did not go abroad, including Health Minister TS Singhdeo who was found to be Omicron positive. On Sunday, an Omicron variant was found in three samples of Bilaspur, in which a two-year-old child is also there. From this point of view, only a few Omicron variants have been found in all the three categories of youth, elderly and children in the state.

There was a worldwide alert on Omicron
There is a rapid change in the corona virus i.e. mutation is happening, so genome investigation is very important. So that it should be known that due to which variant in the state this situation is there. Alert was issued all over the world on the Omicron variant, so samples were sent for alert. It is true that this variant has turned out to be less in the report so far. -Doctor. Subhash Mishra, Director, Epidemic Control
