After two years on Monday in IGMC, kidney transplants of two patients were done simultaneously. The team of doctors from IGMC and AIIMS did this kidney transplant. It took a total of seven hours. First transplant kidney transplant started at 8:30 am. Earlier, a 28-year-old youth from Bharmour Chamba had a kidney transplant. Due to other diseases in the young man, the doctors gave him medicines. After that he was transplanted. It took about 4:30 hours.
After that a 32-year-old youth from Gopalpur in Karsog was transplanted, which took two and a half hours. The transplants of the two youths were done at 2.30 pm. After that the doctors kept him in the OT under observation for about two hours. After that the wards were shifted to the wards. He will be under the supervision of doctors for 12 hours now. These two youths have been given kidneys by their families only.
During the transplant, doctors from the Department of Surgery, Urology, Nephrology, Anesthesia, Cardiac Thoracic Surgery and Radiology of IGMC were present. All arrangements were made for this on Sunday. The CTVS operation theater was prepared for kidney transplant. Earlier, IGMC has had three successful transplants. This was done in 2019. Kidney transplants were not being done for two years due to Kovid, but now if the situation is fine, then continuous operations will start.
The operations of both the patients were done free of cost in IGMC. For both these patients, Rs 7 lakh has been given from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. Three and a half lakh rupees were spent on both the patients. However, in private hospitals, it costs up to Rs 15 lakh. Earlier, the first kidney transplant was done on 12 August 2019 at IGMC. Earlier there were three transplants, all those patients are healthy. Now 20 more kidney transplants will be done in IGMC under the supervision of AIIMS doctors. After that IGMC doctors will do the transplant.
Transplants went well, patients under the supervision of doctors: In this regard, MS Dr Janakraj of IGMC said that on Monday, kidney transplant of two patients was done. The transplants of both the patients have been successful. However, now the patients have been kept under the supervision of doctors. Transplants started at 8:30 am under the supervision of AIIMS doctors. The donors were transplanted by 2.30 pm. If the condition of Kovid remains good, then more kidney transplants will be done here.
