Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Center is being built at New Chandigarh in Mohali district near Chandigarh. This hospital will be completely ready in the month of November. Vini Mahajan, Principal Secretary, Government of Punjab told that this state-of-the-art cancer hospital will start functioning in November. He said that the officials of the concerned departments have been instructed that whatever work is pending for this project should be completed soon. Patients of the third stage of cancer will also be treated here. The foundation stone of this hospital was laid by former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh in December 2013.
Many types of diseases will be treated
Principal Secretary Vini Mahajan visited this cancer hospital to see the ongoing construction works, along with several concerned officials. He said that this state-of-the-art 300-bed hospital would cover the entire northern region including Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh. Patients of the third stage of cancer will also be treated here. The principal secretary said that the hospital would provide radiotherapy, radiology, CT scan, MRI, ultrasound, X-ray, mammography, medical oncology, chemotherapy, day-care ward, pathology and lab facilities, minor otology, ophthalmology and medical services. .
Many facilities will be available
Apart from this, facilities like Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology etc. will also be provided. The Principal Secretary said that a unit of Tata Memorial Center Mumbai under the Department of Atomic Energy is being set up in an area of 40,545 square meters at a cost of Rs.663.74 crore, for which 50 acres of land has been given free of cost by the Punjab Government.

There will be residential hostels for doctors and nurses and accommodation facilities for the faculty. Apart from this, accommodation facilities will also be provided for cancer patients and their families in the specially built Dharamshala in the hospital. They will be relieved by having accommodation arrangements for the relatives of the patients coming for treatment in the hospital.
