While preparations are being made in the country to go to Mars, on the other hand there are some people who are risking their lives for a few drops of water every day. We are talking about some tribal families living in Kharkhet Gram Panchayat of Nashik district. There are 25 tribal settlements in Kharkhet Gram Panchayat. More than 300 people live in these settlements and every day they go from one part to another by crossing 40 feet deep ditch with the help of a pole for drinking water.

Laxman Dahwad, a resident of the village told that many government schemes came for his village, but not a single scheme reached the tribals. Drinking water is the right of everyone, but we are not even fortunate enough to have it. There is a river near the settlement. But due to lack of pure water, women have to fetch water from the spring. Women have to do this deadly exercise in order to get drinking water due to the springs of the river being on it.

Please tell that the Taas river coming from Harsul flows from here. There is a 40 feet deep ditch on both sides of this river. The width of this ditch is about 25 feet. According to Laxman, this problem can be solved if a permanent or temporary bridge is made to go from one side to the other. Despite several attempts, the administration does not wake up from sleep. In such a situation, we have no other support other than this wood. Not only women, but small children also go through this path to study till Harsul and Peth.

Children also risk their lives and go to study with the help of this wood.

Many people have also fallen into the abyss
Laxman further told that the problem becomes maximum when someone’s health deteriorates. If the foot slips from the wood, then there is a possibility of falling in the ditch all the time. Many villagers have also fallen into the ditch. There is agriculture near the river, yet the farmer is dependent on rain water only.

Road will be easier for people
Suresh, a resident of the village told that the construction of the Sawarpara-Shendripada road is necessary to come towards the settlement. It takes 40 rupees by car or auto to go from Sawarpara to Harsul. If this road is built, a rent of Rs 20 will be charged. Bridges have been constructed on other rainy rivers of the area, but the problem remains as there is no bridge over Tas river.

People here do not have electricity
There is agriculture near the river, but due to the lack of electricity, the motor cannot be used to draw water. Cultivation is done on rain water only.
