Mehul Choksi missing: Police in Antigua have been searching for Choksi for 3 days; PNB scam accused of running away from India in 2018

Fugitive Mehul Choksi, accused of the Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam, is now being reported missing from Antigua-Barbuda as well. According to the media there, police have been searching for vigil since Sunday. The vigil was last seen in his car at 5.15 pm on Sunday evening. His car has been found, but the surveillance is not known. Police has also told his lawyer about this, but no response has been received.

The vigilance accused of the Rs 14500 crore PNB scam fled abroad in January 2018. It was later revealed that he had taken Antigua-Barbuda citizenship only in 2017. PNB is investigating the scam, agencies like the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and Enforcement Directorate (ED) are trying to extradite vigil. He has refused to appear in India citing poor health. Sometimes he is produced through video conferencing. Many of his properties in India have also been confiscated.

The main accused in this scam is Nirav Modi, a nephew of the vigilante, in a London jail. His extradition has also been approved by the court and government there. But Nirav has challenged the extradition decision in the High Court of London. In this case, it may take 10 to 12 months for the High Court to come to a decision.
