In the higher reaches of the state, the process of snowfall continued on the second day of Monday. There has been widespread snowfall in the higher reaches of Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur, Kullu and Chamba districts. 14.6 cm of snow has fallen in Kaksar, 2.5 cm in Hansa. Due to the snowfall on the hills, 37 roads are completely closed for traffic movement. Of these, 27 roads are stalled in Lahaul-Spiti district. 5 roads are closed in Kullu district, 4 in Kinnaur and one in Shimla.

Manali-Leh National Highway is closed for vehicular movement beyond Darcha due to snowfall. Seven people have died in accidents related to rain and snowfall in the state. Two of these deaths have occurred due to slipping from height. Four people have lost their lives in Lahaul-Spiti district, two in Sirmaur and one in Kullu district. Due to rain and snow, the maximum temperature of the state has dropped by eight to nine degrees. Due to this the state has been engulfed in cold wave.

Kullu: Lahaul administration restricted the movement of vehicles due to snowfall
In view of the snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti district, according to this order issued by the Deputy Commissioner of the district, Neeraj Kumar, National Highway-03 has been closed for vehicles beyond Darcha due to snowfall at Baralacha Pass. Similarly, the Darcha-Shinkula-Janskar road will also remain closed. National Highway – 505 has also been restricted for vehicular movement from Koksar to Losar and from Losar to Kaza.

The Deputy Commissioner said that due to snowfall in the high altitude areas for the last two days, snow has accumulated on the roads. In such a situation, driving vehicles on a slippery road can put life at risk for the drivers. Deputy Commissioner Neeraj Kumar said that due to heavy snowfall in Lahaul-Spiti, so far two feet of snow has fallen on Baralacha top on Manali-Leh road. In such a situation, when the weather is clear, it will take 48 hours to open the road.

Director of Meteorological Department Surendra Pal said that from October 20 to 22, the weather will be clear in the entire state. The Meteorological Department has advised tourists and mangoes to take adequate safety measures in view of the rain and snowfall.
