A major accident was averted on the Kalka-Shimla railway line on Thursday morning. Two wheels of a rail car going from Kalka to Shimla derailed. Fortunately, the train car was not at high speed and stopped there only after the wheels came off. Had the speed been more, it could have overturned and it could have caused serious injuries to the people, at present the situation is fine, efforts are being made to bring the train car back on track. Trains have been stopped. The accident happened around 7:00 am. This train going from Kalka to Shimla was moving from Kumarhatti station to Barog station, as soon as the train car reached behind Bareg tunnel. Suddenly its wheels derailed. Passengers sitting in the train car were also scared. 9 passengers were seated inside it, while its capacity is to carry 15 passengers. As soon as the incident was reported, the driver of the rail car informed the authorities. The officials of Ambala and Shimla were informed about this. The investigation will start after the officials reach there. The real cause of the incident will be ascertained. At present, arrangements are being made to send the passengers to Shimla after reaching Barog railway station. After the accident all the passengers got scared.

Kalka-Shimla is a heritage railway track. Rail motor car has been running here for a long time. This motorcar runs daily from Kalka towards Shimla at 5:00 am. Tourists give more attention to traveling in rail car. Most of the tourists are also in the train running on the heritage track. Locals travel in very few trains. In such a situation, despite the derailment of the track, a major accident has been averted. It is being told that the track had become slippery due to rain, which led to the derailment.
