Now a frightening information is coming to the fore about a lineage BA.1 of this variant. Virologists doing its genome sequencing claim that the BA.1 variant spreads very rapidly and is replacing the delta variant in Maharashtra and some other states. Note that the Omicron (B.1.1.529) variant has split into three lineages (lineages) BA.1, BA.2 and BA.3. Several cases of Omicron’s new lineage BA.2 have been found in South Africa, Australia and Canada.

Growing very fast BA.1

BA.1 Replacing the amino acid position
According to virologists, the positions of BA.1 and BA.3 amino acids are erased from 69-70. During the investigation of clinical sequencing, we found more presence of BA.1 in place of normal omicron at many places. Since this sub-lineage belongs to the same family, these samples are considered to be Omicron positive.

INSACOG is doing sequencing in many states including Maharashtra and Kerala
The department’s Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (INSACOG) ie Department of Biotechnology looks after genome sequencing for some states including Maharashtra and Kerala. There are more than 50 mutations in Omicron. Its first case was found on 8 November in South Africa. Since then it has spread to many countries including India. Experts say that the division of Omicron into lineages is a topic of more interest to scientists because it will help to better understand epidemiology. There is nothing for the common man to be worried about.
