Question: There is a panic-like atmosphere being created about Omicron, what is your opinion on this variant?
Answer : This variant is reported to have been detected for the first time in South Africa on 9 November. It is spreading fast. In just 20 days, after Africa, it has registered its influx in many continents including Europe and Asia. After Botswana, Belgium, Israel, Hong Kong, Germany, so far there is news of outbreak in the Netherlands. Experts are considering it as an effective variant of infection capacity many times more than all other variants of Corona including the Delta variant. So there is a need to be very careful. Strict measures are being taken immediately. The central government has issued guidelines. Ignoring the guidelines issued can be costly.

Question : Can it be believed that this variant will bring the third wave and now the third wave is going to knock in the state?

Answer : There is no concrete evidence yet that this variant will bring about the third wave. But, of course, this variant can be a factor in the third wave, so we should not be careless in the matter of caution. Another important thing, the situation in UP is better than elsewhere. According to the Sero survey report, immunity has developed in more than 80 percent of the people here. Along with this, the figure of vaccination is also close to 15 crores. This is the reason why the situation here can be called better. But, caution is required at every level.

Question : What is your opinion for people in the high risk category and what should they do to avoid it?

Answer : Co-morbidities i.e. high risk patients, including transplant patients, people suffering from serious diseases including blood pressure, sugar, heart disease, liver, need more care. It is mandatory for all of them to follow CAB i.e. Kovid Appropriate Behavior. The use of masks and the distance of two yards will have to be taken care of.

Question : What is the way to prevent this variant? What are some steps that need to be taken at the personal level and at the social level?

Answer : This is a good question, we all have to understand that this is a very important time. If this variant also escapes immunity and vaccination, then the only way to deal with it is through Kovid Appropriate Behavior. In this, there are important precautions like wearing masks, physical distancing, participation of limited people in public gatherings. Along with this, everyone has to get both doses of the vaccine.

Regular hand wash and sanitization is also essential. Apart from this, some things are also worth noting at the social level. Apart from following the rules related to testing and quarantine of those coming from abroad with vigilance at the airport, we also need to take precautions at railway stations and bus stations. As a responsible society also we have to prepare ourselves.
