The Bailey bridge built on National Highway 205 looks like this.

Shimla Dharamshala National Highway-205 will be restored for vehicular movement from today afternoon. A 180 feet long bailey bridge has been built on this, on which those vehicles will be able to pass. It will take at least one more month for the main road to be built. Let us inform that the final inspection of Bailey bridge was done on Monday, after which the movement of vehicles was allowed on the bridge. Now people of 8 districts will not face any problem to reach Shimla. This information was given by Naveen Kandal, ex-in of PWD Department Dhami.

Trucks laden with cement or bars will not be able to pass

Easily reach Shimla via National Highway 205 and Lower Himachal from Shimla. In this way, the National Highway, which was closed since last September 13, will be restored for traffic after a month. Bailey bridge has the capacity to bear the load of 20 to 25 tons. In such a situation, vehicles with more weight than this will not be able to pass. Empty trucks can ply on this bridge, but trucks laden with cement or rebar are prohibited. The mechanical wing of the Public Works Department has prepared this bridge.

National Highway collapsed due to heavy rain

On September 13, due to heavy rains in Himachal, National Highway-205 had collapsed near Ghandal. Due to this the vehicular movement on the highway was completely disrupted. People have to go to Lower Himachal after taking long detours. Teams from National Highway Authority and Lake Construction Department visited. After the survey, the engineers had prepared the design of the new road to be built at this place and decided that only Bailey bridge would be installed here. Had the road been built at this place, it would have taken a long time to restore the National Highway.

Traffic is currently running on 3 alternate routes

Due to the closure of National Highway-205, traffic is running on three alternate routes. People are going to Lower Himachal via Ghanahatti to Panesh, Kanda Kohbagh. Whereas to reach Shimla from Lower Himachal, the route of Bangora, Kali Hatti, Nalhatti is being taken. For small vehicles, an alternate route of 16 miles has been given by going a little ahead of Ghanhatti to Pakki Bawdi, but this road is also single lane and there is a jam situation here too. The road in the middle is also unpaved, but there is a lot of trouble that way too.

It will take a long time to build the main road

Till the road is not built, only Bailey bridge will be used. Now the foundation has to be strengthened to build the road. Because earlier the road had collapsed due to weak foundation. Now if a road is to be built on this highway from Dabara, then its foundation needs to be strengthened further. Here again a heavy wall will have to be built from below. Because here water seeps between the wall, which increases the risk of road subsidence. Even though alternate routes have been decided by the administration, but if the Ghandal road is to be improved, it will take at least one more month to build a new wall.

The length of the highway is 183 kilometers

This highway passes through the Indian states of Himachal Pradesh and Punjab. Its length is 183 km (114 mi). This highway starts from Kharar town of Punjab near Chandigarh. Passing through Ropar and Kiratpur Sahib goes to Himachal. It goes to Shimla and Dharamsala via Sundernagar in Himachal. Some of the stops on this highway are as follows- Kharar, Kurali, Rupnagar, Ghanauli, Swarghat, Nauni, Darlaghat, Shimla.
