Meanwhile, 69 senior citizens living in an old age home in Bhiwandi, Thane, adjacent to Mumbai, have become corona positive.
Sample sent for genome sequencing
Dr Pratibha Panpatil of Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation said, ‘A person returning from South Africa to Dombivli has been found to be Kovid positive. To find out whether he is ‘Omicron’ positive or not, his samples have been sent for genome sequencing.’ After this, the officials are preparing to conduct a Kovid investigation of the person’s family as well.
Whole family has been tested
Dr Panpatil further said, ‘He had traveled from South Africa to Delhi and Delhi to Mumbai. He has been kept in the isolation room of the Municipal Corporation. His brother’s investigation report has come negative. The report of the rest of the family is to come today. The good thing is that after returning from South Africa, the person has not come in contact with anyone.
The first case of the Omicron variant was confirmed in South Africa. Recently, the Government of India has also issued new rules for international travelers in view of health security.
Condition of all elderly people infected in Bhiwandi is normal
The condition of all 69 elderly people infected at Matoshree old age home in Khadawali near Padgha of Bhiwandi, Thane is normal. All have been admitted to Thane District Hospital for treatment. More than 100 people live in this old age home. Last week some people here started showing symptoms of fever. The corona test of an elderly person was done because his fever did not subside even after starting the treatment. As a precaution, the old age home management decided to test them all.
Fear is rife around the world from a new form of coronavirus discovered in South Africa. The European Union (EU) has suspended flights to Africa in South Africa following the discovery of a new type of corona virus, Omicron. O’Micron is said to be seven times more dangerous than the Delta version.
