At around 7 pm on Saturday evening, a canter coming from Parwanoo’s side in Kalka Bazar caught 5 people. A woman and her 11-month-old baby were killed in the accident. Along with this, two children and a woman were seriously injured. The deceased woman has been identified as Shivani (32) and her son Saksham (11 months) resident of Tipra.

The deceased and the injured are said to be from the same family. All of them were waiting for the auto to go home. There was another child with 5 people, who did not suffer any injuries. The people present on the spot told that the canter was coming from Parwanoo from Kalka side. It is being told that suddenly the brakes of the canter failed. First the canter hit an Alto car, then hit a bike and Activa. After that, dragging the bike-Activa, taking the pedestrians in its grip, went ahead and collided with the pillar and stopped.

As soon as the information was received, the station in-charge Mahavir Singh from Kalka police station reached the spot along with his team. The bodies of the deceased woman and her child were taken to the hospital. While the injured Swati Singla, Vansh and Sakshi were referred to the Civil Hospital, Sector-6, Panchkula for treatment.

The canter driver told the police that he was going to Zirakpur after getting the medicines empty in Parmanu. In the middle of the market, the brakes of the canter suddenly failed. Sitting in the canter, he raised his voice and asked people to be on the side. Suddenly the canter collided with the Alto car. When he turned the canter on the other side, he climbed over the people on the way.
Police station in-charge Mahabir Singh said that the canter driver has been detained. Taking possession of the canter, the dead bodies of the deceased have been kept in the Kalka mortuary. The injured have been referred to Panchkula. Police is engaged in taking action.
