The Special Operations team on Thursday retrieved the bodies of 7 out of 10 people who were washed away in the Tojing drain of tribal district Lahaul-Spiti from the debris after Tuesday’s floods in Himachal Pradesh. However, the search is on for three people who were drowned in the same drain and four in Brahmaganga located in Manikaran, Kullu in neighboring district. For this, teams of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Himachal Pradesh Police, fire brigade and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) are continuously engaged in the search operation.

According to the information, JCB machine has been seen far away from the road in Tojing Nala and search teams are trying to reach this JCB and it is expected that there may be three people missing in this JCB. Therefore, efforts are being made to reach JCB and clear the debris from its surroundings.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Lahaul Spiti Manav Verma said that the search operation is going on. Seven bodies have been recovered and search is on for three missing people. For this, search teams are busy on the spot. He said that 51 officers and jawans of NDRF, Himachal Pradesh Police, ITBP, fire brigade are carrying out the rescue operation on the spot, while efforts are on to restore the roads of the valley. He said that two bridges have been completely damaged in NH-26 road where restoration work is in full swing and restoration work on Chandigarh-Leh road is on war footing in Keylong.

On the other hand, heavy damage has also been reported in Changut and Churaput villages of Lahaul-Spiti district. The Changut bridge has collapsed and the flood has turned its course towards Churaput village. Due to which people’s crops have been affected by this flood and along with tractors and motorcycles have also been washed away in the flood here. While an old house has also been destroyed.

Rescue operation continues in Brahmaganga

Here, in Manikarn Valley of Kullu district, the search for four people missing in the Brahmaganga floods is going on. Rescue teams of police and DDMA along with local people are continuously searching for the missing in the rubble along the river, but so far none of the four missing have been found.
