The man reached outside the police commissioner’s office around 12 noon and set himself on fire.

A very surprising case has come to light in Pune. Angered by not getting the character certificate at the right time, a man attempted self-immolation by setting himself on fire outside the police commissioner’s office. Investigation has revealed that the person had applied for a character certificate at Khadki police station a few days back.

The man, aged between 40 and 45, has been admitted to the hospital in a serious condition, said Yashwant Gawri, senior inspector of Bandhgarden police station. According to the investigation, some cases are pending against the man, so he has not been given a character certificate. However, his appeal was being re-examined and as per law, a certificate would have been issued to him.

Burned himself outside the office, tried to enter
“He reached outside the police commissioner’s office around 12 noon and set himself on fire and tried to enter,” Gawri said. The policemen standing at the gate stopped him and took him to the hospital, the officer said. According to doctors, more than 50 percent of the person’s body has been burnt. At present, he has been admitted to the burn ward of Sassoon General Hospital.

Officers of the Bundagarden Police Station are investigating the matter.
