In the coming days, 10 more electric buses will start plying on the city roads. At present 12 electric buses are running. The process of passing the new 10 electric buses is going to be completed soon. After the unlock, the number of passengers has started increasing in the city and BRTS buses started sequentially. At present, 1.15 lakh passengers are traveling daily in city and BRTS buses.
Before Corona, 2.40 lakh passengers used to travel daily. After getting relaxation in mini lockdown, 50 percent passengers are availing bus services. Out of 1.15 lakh passengers daily, 75 thousand are traveling in BRTS and 40 thousand in city buses. At present, 247 city buses are running on 20 routes and 227 BRTS buses on 12 routes in the city.
The demand for e-vehicles in the city has started increasing due to the back-breaking rise in fuel prices. There is a dearth of even a single charging stations for e-vehicles in the city so far. Vehicle owners will have to charge the battery at home. A decision on setting up of charging stations in different areas of the city can be taken in the meeting of the Standing Committee to be held on Thursday.
