Although loss of taste and smell are common symptoms of corona in adults, but if your child is reluctant to eat, then he is also likely to have these symptoms. In a recent research conducted in Britain, scientists have claimed that children who have been irritable about food and drink after getting corona infection may have post-covid symptoms.

The smell of rotten eggs comes from eating children

The University of East Anglia and a charity organization named Fifth Sense have done this research. In this, scientists have discussed the parosmia disorder caused by the corona virus. Parosmia is a condition in which people get foul smell and bad taste from food items. This smell is like rotten eggs, meat and chemicals. According to scientists, this disorder persists in many people during and even after recovery from corona.

Research has found that in many cases children can also have parosmia disorder after corona. This is the reason why children refuse to eat and drink after covid recovery.

Problems faced by teenage children

In a conversation with the BBC, University Professor Philpott said that he is seeing parosmia disorder in teenage children for the first time in his career. He says, “Some experts in the medical field have not yet identified this problem. Without knowing it, they assume that children do bother about food.”

Philpott says that for children who did not already eat properly or who have autism disorder, it is more difficult to pass through this post-Covid symptom.

Duncan Bok of the Fifth Sense charity says that he has come across many such cases in which the food and drink of children have changed since the corona virus. “We’ve heard from some parents that their kids are suffering from nutritional issues, which has caused them to lose weight. But doctors have just left it as a bad habit for kids,” he told the BBC.

Similar research done before

In a research published last week in the journal Nature Genetics, scientists found that cases of parosmia disorder are increasing in children. In research, the reason for this was considered to be the problems caused by corona. Researchers had also informed that parosmia disorder is seen in more women than men. Also, people who get these symptoms after getting corona infection, their age is less than others.

What should be fed to children suffering from parosmia?

Duncan Bock says that parents should prepare a list of food. In this, they should keep noting which food their child likes and which is not. Apart from this, children should be kept away from strong smelling foods. They should be encouraged to eat simple food. With this, the problem of smell and taste will not bother them much and they will be able to eat food easily.

Bok says that you can also buy a nose clip to close the baby’s nose while eating. You can also give ‘smell training’ to children for speedy recovery from parosmia disorder. In this, children have to smell four different smells twice a day.
