A special court in Mumbai has sentenced a bus conductor to one year in jail for talking to a 13-year-old girl about ‘sex’. The court found the accused Chandrakant Sudam Koli guilty under Section 12 of the POCSO Act and imposed a one-year sentence and a fine of Rs 15,000 on him. In default of payment of fine, he shall undergo rigorous imprisonment for three months.
Seeing the girl alone in the bus, the accused did obscene talk
This incident is from the year 2018. The girl, who lives in the eastern suburbs, used to go to school every morning in a government bus and return by noon. In July 2018, only 2 or 3 people were sitting in the bus on the day of the incident. During this, bus conductor Chandrakant Sudam Koli came to him and sat next to him. Koli asked the girl if she knew anything about ‘sex’. To which the girl said that she should not ask such questions to her. The conductor left for a while, but when he returned to the girl, he again questioned sex. The girl again asked him not to ask such questions and as soon as her bus stop came, she got down from the bus.
A few days later, when the girl refused to go to school by bus, the victim’s mother asked her, but she did not inform. When the mother asked the victim’s friend, she informed about it, after which the mother took the girl to the bus depot and identified the accused Koli. After this the mother filed a case against the accused. After this the police arrested the accused the next day.
The accused got bail in just 12 days
After his arrest, the accused Chandrakant Sudam Koli went to jail for only 12 days. After that he got bail. Koli’s lawyers filed an application for suspension of sentence to file an appeal, accepting which the special court suspended the sentence for 30 days.
