Now on the death certificate of people who lost their lives due to corona, corona will be written as the cause of death. The Government of India has given this information to the Supreme Court. The government said that the Ministry of Health and the Indian Council of Medical Research have prepared new guidelines, under which official documents will be provided in deaths related to corona. The government has issued these guidelines 10 days after the Supreme Court showed strictness in this matter.

What does the guideline say?
According to the guideline, only those deaths will be considered corona related, in which the patient has been RT-PCR test, molecular test, rapid-antigen test or a doctor has confirmed corona infection after examination in a hospital or home. Assuming the cause of death of such patients to be corona, information will be given in the death certificate. Deaths due to poisoning, suicide, murder or other causes including accident will not be considered as corona related deaths. Even if the person who died is corona infected.

Those patients who died in hospital or at home and in whom Form 4 and 4A of Medical Certificate of Cause of Death under Section 10 of the Life and Death Registration Act, 1969 have been given to the registering institution, only their death will be considered corona related.

Deaths that occur within 30 days of getting the test will be considered corona related.
According to the affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, according to the study of ICMR, 95% of deaths occur within 25 days of a person getting corona infected. By changing the rules, now the deaths that occur within 30 days from the date of corona test or the day of being found corona infected will be considered as corona related death, even if the patient died outside the hospital or home made facility.

However, if a corona patient dies after 30 days while being admitted in a hospital or home-made facility, then it will be considered a corona related death.

The guideline also states that if the death certificate is not available in case of any death, or the family of the deceased is not satisfied with the cause of death given in the death certificate and which is not covered by the standards mentioned above, in such cases the State And the Union Territories will inform a committee formed at the district level.
