Force Gurkha-rivalling Mahindra Thar 5-door set to debut soon: Here’s what to expect – Times of India

The popular Mahindra Thar is likely set to get a bigger, brawnier sibling – a much-anticipated 5-door version, in India. The manufacturer has sent out invitations for an event scheduled to take place on April 29th and 30th, 2024. However, the invitation doesn’t say what the event is about. It’s possible that the company might unveil the 5-door Thar, which has been in the pipeline for quite some time and has been spotted testing on multiple occasions lately.
Mahindra 5-door Thar: What to expect
While the overall design will mostly stay the same as the current Thar, the 5-door iteration is likely to get circular LED headlights and a redesigned grille. Additionally, the spy shots have also revealed that it will get a sunroof along with a fixed metal roof. Other changes include a new set up tail lamps, new alloy wheels, DRLs, and more.

The most significant change, of course, will be the addition of two rear doors, making the Thar a more practical option for those who require extra passenger or cargo space. The SUV will now feature a longer wheelbase, thus making it a practical offering – something that it has lacked in the three-door versions. Inside, we can expect the model to feature an improved infotainment system, a more feature-rich instrument cluster, and additional comfort features.
Under the hood, Mahindra is likely to retain the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines from the current 3-door Thar, possibly with tweaks for improved performance. Both engine options are likely to be available with manual and automatic transmission choices. However, it remains to be seen if the Thar 5-door will provide options for both RWD and 4WD configurations.
With the arrival of the 5-door Thar, Mahindra will inject some fresh energy in the off-road segment as the model will rival the likes of Maruti Suzuki Jimny and Force Gurkha, the latter of which is also set to get a 5-door variant soon.
