The central and state governments worked for all sections, but the lawyer community is empty handed.

Lawyers have suffered a lot due to the Corona epidemic. Their income has come down by 60 percent. The situation has become such that some lawyers have to sell vegetables to run their homes. Lekhraj Sharma, former chairman of Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, said that the central and state governments worked for all sections, but the lawyer community is empty handed.

Sharma said that due to lack of physical hearing, the lawyers are suffering a lot. Another major reason for the poor financial condition is that the High Court has decided to hear only the most important cases. Due to this, those who want to file the case, when they come to know that when their case will be heard, it is not sure, then they start hesitant to file the case.

On the other hand, in the Corona era, where the central and state governments did something for all sections, nothing was done for the lawyers. Along with the Bar Council of Punjab and Haryana, the Bar Council of India has also appealed for financial assistance many times, but the government did not pay any attention to it. The Bar Council had decided to help the needy lawyers financially and also distributed Rs 4 crore. But the Bar Council also has no source of income. Whereas the central government should also make provision for lawyers in the budget.

New lawyer in more trouble

Lekhraj Sharma said that the new lawyers are facing more trouble during this crisis. Due to lack of work and financial constraints, lawyers who were living in the city on rent, have to go to their homes. On the other hand, some lawyers have had to close their offices and make temporary offices at home. There are more than 1 lakh lawyers in Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh and most of the lawyers are currently facing financial difficulties.
