NEW DELHI: MG Motor India is set to unveil its compact SUV Astor on Wednesday.
Astor SUV will sit under the Hector in the portfolio and will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
Astor will be the first SUV in its segment to offer level-2 A-DAS (adaptive driving assistance system) and artificial intelligence-powered infotainment control.
Astor is MG’s fourth product in India and will aim to strengthen its SUV market.
Ahead of the reveal, multiple dealership sources confirmed the engine and transmission options available with the Astor.
Astor will have no diesel powertrain. Pinning hopes on petrol, Astor will be powered by a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol and 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engines.
Astor’s 1.3L engine which will be paired with an automatic transmission puts out a segment-leading output figure of 163 hp and 230 Nm of peak torque. The 1.5L, on the other hand, will come with the option of manual and CVT gearbox choices and will generate 120 hp and 150 Nm.
The 1.3-litre Astor is expected to come in range-topping Sharp and Savvy trims while Super and Smart will be offered with the 1.5-litre variant.
MG Astor will feature JioSaavn app to stream music / videos, seen installed on the cars’ infotainment system, i-Smart next-gen accessed through 10.1 inches display-screen, which can also communicate with the owners’ mobile phone.
It will allow customers to personalize their set of services. MG car owners will also get access to music on the JioSaavn app along with the industry-first feature of reserving a parking slot through a head unit (powered by Park+ – select cities to begin with) in the car.
