Another petition has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking a probe into the Pegasus espionage case. The petition has been filed by John Brittas, a Rajya Sabha member of the Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M). The petition has demanded a probe into the matter under the supervision of the court. Britas has said that the espionage case is worrying. This espionage is against the court verdict and fundamental rights in the matter of privacy. This will affect the freedom of expression and dialogue.

Britas said on Sunday that the central government was not ready to conduct an investigation into the allegations of espionage, despite its very serious nature. Therefore questions were raised in the Parliament in this matter. But the government has neither denied nor acknowledged the spying by Pegasus.

At the same time, media reports claim that the Israeli software Pegasus has spied on ministers, politicians, government officials, journalists etc. The information about the phone numbers of about 300 people in the country has been revealed so far. The government has said that there is already a system of surveillance in the country. Information Technology Minister Vaishnav has termed the media reports related to espionage in the Lok Sabha as baseless.

Govt should get inquiry by JPC or regular judge of Supreme Court: Chidambaram
Former Union Minister Chidambaram has demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) inquiry into the Pegasus case. He said the government should recommend a JPC probe. The investigation of the JPC will be more effective than the investigation of the departmental committee. According to him, the government can also request the Supreme Court to appoint its regular judge to investigate the matter. Prime Minister Narendra Modi should make a statement in the Parliament in this matter. It should be clarified whether the spying took place through the software or not.
