A high level committee will now do phone tapping in Maharashtra during the tenure of the previous Fadnavis government. After Congress leader Nana Patole raised the matter in the Assembly, Home Minister Dilip Walse Patil had assured to set up a high-level committee to probe the matter. An inquiry has been ordered in the same matter on Friday. The CID Commissioner, Additional Commissioner of Special Branch will also be members in this committee headed by the DG of Maharashtra.

Nana Patole says that his phone was tapped in the name of Amjad Khan. On this, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said that there is merit in his allegation.

The committee will investigate this matter

  • Were the phones of politicians tapped for wrong political motives between 2015 and 2019?
  • If so, who gave this order and why?
  • Whether the existing rules were followed properly during phone tapping?
  • The committee will submit its full report in this matter in three months.

My phone was tapped in Amjad Khan’s name: Nana Patole

Raising the issue of phone tapping, Nana Patole had said, in 2016-17, phones of MLAs and MPs were tapped. He said, my number was tapped in the name of Amjad Khan. He was a drug peddler. It is an attack on personal liberty. Patole had raised the question, on whose orders the phone tapping has been done? He had demanded an inquiry into the matter.

Ajit Pawar said – Nana’s allegations have merit

Nana Patole was earlier a BJP MP. Later, after differences with PM Narendra Modi and Devendra Fadnavis, he left the BJP and joined the Congress. On Patole’s allegation, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar said on Saturday that Nana Patole’s allegations have merit. He said that if phone tapping is done for national security then it is fine but if it was being done for political gains then it is against the law. He said that the phones of politicians and public representatives were tapped by giving false names. The same happened in the case of Nana Patole.
