Manimajra’s youth, who is accused of drug smuggling, in the custody of Sector-39 police station of Chandigarh.
A case of arrest of a drug smuggler has come to light by Chandigarh Police on Sunday. According to the police, this person, a local resident, was caught on suspicion during checking at the naka. During the search, half a kilogram of charas has been recovered, while interrogation has revealed that he used to bring intoxicants from Himachal Pradesh and supply them to the tricity (Chandigarh, Panchkula and Mohali). At present, after registering the case, the accused has been presented in the court. From there, efforts are on to add further links by taking him on remand of 1 day.
The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Sandeep of Manimajra. According to the information received, on the basis of a secret information, the team under the leadership of Sector-39 police station in-charge Rakesh Kumar was checking vehicles by putting up a block near Shahpur Chowk. At the same time, this young man was leaving on foot from there and on seeing the police, he turned back and tried to run away with fast steps. Police immediately took him into custody and searched the polythene held in his hand, and 500 grams of charas was recovered from the accused.
During preliminary interrogation, the accused told that he used to bring narcotics from Himachal and supply them to Chandigarh Tricity. At present, Sector-39 police station has started further investigation by registering a case against the accused under the NDPS Act.
According to the police, the accused told that he did not exchange phone calls or messages with anyone while going to collect the drugs in heavy consignment from Himachal, but from the main people connected with the supply in Himachal the next time he took the drugs. The day and time used to be fixed. On the same day, he used to come to that place with the goods.
