Ticket getting 50 rupees.

After 14 months, platform tickets started being available at Surat station, but there is a protest due to its cost of Rs 50. Western Railway’s Mumbai Division has implemented new platform ticket rates at 55 stations. Rates have been fixed according to non-suburban-1, 2 and 3 category stations. Surat station is in non-suburban-1 category.

The annual income of Category-1 station is more than 500 crores, Category-2 is 100 crores and Category-3 stations have more than 20 crores. Railway’s reasoning behind increasing the price of platform ticket at Surat station to Rs 50 is that the footfall here is about 70000 per day. This rate has been fixed so that there is not much crowd at the station.

Rate will be revised after reviewing with officials
Rakesh Shah, chairman of the railway committee in the Chamber of Commerce, has opposed the increase in the price of platform tickets. He has written a letter to DRM GVL Satyakumar saying that it is not a matter of people’s bus to pay Rs 50 for a platform ticket. The maximum price should be 20 or 30 rupees. He said that platform tickets in Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Vadodara are available for Rs 30. GVL Satyakumar said that we will review with the officials. After that the revised rate will be applicable.
