A division bench of Justice AG Masih and Justice Ashok Kumar Verma has said that the schedule for the PU Senate elections should be presented in the court before July 16. The Bench has said that in the present circumstances, elections to the PU Senate should be held soon. Along with this, instructions have also been given to implement the directions of the Single Bench in view of the elections. Now the next hearing of the case will be on May 19.

Let us inform that in this May, PU had filed a petition in the High Court saying that it is not possible to hold elections in the present circumstances. Along with this, it was also said that after the orders regarding holding of single bench elections, the PU had decided to hold the elections on 26 April by issuing a notification on 16 April. Then on April 24, notification was issued and re-elections were rescheduled for May 19.

Then due to Corona, the Punjab government issued a notification on 19 April, according to which more than 20 people could not attend any program. Since there are 3,75,500 voters in the PU Senate elections. In such a situation, elections could not be held on May 19. After this, the High Court adjourned the hearing of the matter for July 8 and said that during this time the circumstances for the elections should be taken stock.
