The Punjab and Haryana High Court has refused to grant bail to the accused in the case of spurious liquor that claimed hundreds of lives and loss of eyesight of many. The High Court said that those who snatch lives of people by selling spurious liquor with the desire to earn money are not entitled to mercy. If such people keep roaming freely then the society will be filled with orphans and widows.

Avnash Singh, a resident of Tarn Taran, Punjab, had said in the petition that on 22 August 2020, a case was registered in the case of spurious liquor. He has been in jail for 10 months. He had sought bail saying that he had nothing to do with the case.

The High Court said that the tragedies caused by spurious liquor in the country cannot be ignored. If such persons are released on bail, they will spoil the system of the society. Last year in Haryana too, more than 50 people lost their lives due to spurious liquor.
