  • Meeting with officials, asked to make estimates and route charts

225 city buses will be purchased in Dhanbad. That too, when only 12 of the 70 buses purchased 10 years ago are running here. 58 city buses were standing idle. No effort was even made to get them repaired and put on the roads again. Despite this, the Urban Development Department has decided to purchase a large number of new buses.

These buses will be run in Dhanbad Municipal Corporation and Chirkunda Municipal Council areas. Amit Kumar, director of Urban Development Agency (SUDA), who visited Dhanbad, has also held a meeting with the officials of both the municipal bodies. He has been asked to prepare a complete action plan by preparing the estimate, route chart for the city bus service. Instructions have been given to send DPR to the Urban Development Department.

1. Municipal body will fix the fare and monitor the buses

SUDA Director Amit Kumar says that around 225 buses will come in the first phase in Dhanbad and Chirkunda. Later on, more such buses can come. The buses will be operated on the Gross Cost Contract Model (GCC). The operation will be entrusted to private agencies. The municipal body will fix and monitor the rent.

2. Buses will open every 5-7 minutes, routes and stops will be decided

There is a plan to run three categories of buses. Big and medium class buses will run on the broad roads. At the same time, mini buses will be run on less wide roads. Charts and stoppages will be fixed for the operation of Dhanbad to Jharia-Sindri, Katras, Tapchanchi, Chirkunda routes. A bus will leave every 5-7 minutes.

Ex-servicemen, tourism department, NGO failed to operate the buses

In the year 2010, 35 minibuses of Swaraj Mazda Company were found in Dhanbad. In the year 2012, 35 more city buses arrived. The responsibility of operation was given to the organization of ex-servicemen. He drove buses for two-and-a-half years. After standing for 7-8 months, buses were handed over to the tourism department in 2014. After a few days, the NGO was given the responsibility of operation, but they too failed. Somehow 12 buses started running in 2016.
