The first human infection case of the Monkey B Virus was reported in China. A 53-year-old male vet in China, who had worked for an institution researching on non-human primates, had started showing the early onset symptoms of the virus in early March. He passed away in May. 

2. (a) 67.6 percent 

The fourth round of national serosurvey was conducted in 70 districts across the country between June and July, informed  Indian Council of Medical Research Director General Dr Balram Bhargava on July 20, 2021. A total of 28,975 people were enrolled and the overall seroprevalence was found to be 67.6 percent in the entire population. 

3. (a) Chandrashekhar Azad

India remembered two legendary freedom fighters of India – Chandra Shekhar Azad and Bal Gangadhar Tilak on their birth anniversary today, July 23, 2021. Chandrashekhar Azad was born July 23, 1906. At the age of 15 years, he had taken part in the Non-Cooperation Movement under the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi in 1920.

4. (d) Toyota 

Toyota, one of the top corporate sponsors of the Tokyo Olympics, has decided against running Olympics-related TV commercials during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Toyota’s CEO Akio Toyoda and other top executives will also be skipping the Tokyo Olympics Opening Ceremony on July 23, 2021.

8. (d) Amazon Rainforest

Amazon Rainforest is emitting more carbon dioxide (CO2) than it absorbs in some areas, as per a study published in the scientific journal Nature on July 14, 2021. The study states that the role of the Amazon Rainforest as a carbon sink to absorb more CO2 in the atmosphere seems to be declining.

Two other sports will be returning to the Olympics this year after being cut out previously and they include Baseball and Softball.

10. (c) Greece

Greece is always the first nation in the Parade of Nations at the Olympics Opening Ceremony, as it was the host of the ancient Olympics and the first modern one. The host nation, on the other hand, is always the last one to march in. This year, Japan ended the parade and it was preceded by 2024 hosts France and 2028 hosts US.
