NEW DELHI: MG Motor India on Wednesday unveiled its compact SUV Astor. It will be on display at MG showrooms from September 19 and bookings will start soon thereafter.
The company calls Astor India’s first AI-powered car and it also becomes the first car in the segment to offer A-DAS (advanced driving assistant system). The Level-2 A-DAS allows 14 functionalities.
MG’s fourth product in the Indian market offers segment-leading features like hill descent control, heated ORVMs, steering modes, 80+ connected commands and a digital key with Bluetooth tech.
Astor will come in three interior colour choices – Sangria red, iconic ivory and Tuxedo black. The driver seat is 6-way electrically adjustable while the interior packs 10.1-inch infotainment and 7-inch driver’s display.
MG Astor will be powered by two engine options. The 1.3-litre Turbo petrol engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission and puts out 140 horsepower and 220 Nm of peak torque. The naturally aspirated petrol engine gets the option of an 8-speed CVT or a manual transmission and generates 110 HP and 144 Nm.
The car ensures a safer driving experience with 27 standard safety features like ESP, TCS and HDC. Among its host of comfort, convenience and safety features include 6 airbags, 6-way power-adjustable driver seats, electric parking brake, heated ORVM, rain-sensing wiper, PM 2.5 filter, panoramic sky roof, rear AC vent and front and rear armrest.
MG Astor will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. Citroen is also expected to launch its C3 compact SUV in the festive period.
