The work of rejuvenation of the country’s only Barkatullah Khan Stadium, built from the stone of Suryanagari, has started. This is considered an important step towards building an international stadium. The restoration work of the stadium has been started at a fast pace at a cost of twenty crores. The South Block of the stadium will be completely demolished and made new. On the other hand, a separate pavelium will be constructed in North Block. Along with this, the soil of the field and pitch has been completely dug up. It will be renovated. From next year, this stadium will be fully prepared to host IPL as well as international matches.

RCA President Vaibhav Gehlot has been making constant efforts to make the Barkatullah Khan Stadium international standard ever since he took over. So that international as well as IPL matches can be organized here. In order to renovate the stadium, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot had made a provision of twenty crore rupees in the last budget on the demand of his son. Now the responsibility of rejuvenating this stadium has been handled by Kashmir-origin IAS officer and JDA commissioner Qamar-ul-Jamal. He has also been a civil engineer.
Today Jamal told that Barkatullah Khan Stadium is counted as one of the best stadiums in the country, but it has some flaws. International matches can be organized here only after removing them. Before taking up the task, we got it checked whether the arena inside it conforms to international standards. It has been found to be perfect. After that we prepared the action plan. For this, a firm of Jaipur and Bangalore has been made consultant. Besides, the tenders for the works have also been done and the work has been started.
He told that this issue was discussed in the meeting with the Chief Minister ten days ago. During that time Gehlot said that in the past also money was invested in this stadium, but the benefit could not be received. In such a situation, this time the work should be carried forward by making a complete plan. Also, the focus should be on sustainable construction.

The soil and pitch inside the stadium have been completely excavated. The pitch will be prepared afresh. In addition, five practice pitches will be made. Black soil for pitch is being procured from Haryana and red soil from Maharashtra. At the same time the lawn will be planted anew in the field.
The South Pavilion is being completely demolished. It will be made completely new. In this, players will get the best facilities like a five star hotel. The way facilities are available in big stadiums of the country and abroad. On the same lines, state-of-the-art facilities will be mobilized.
Presently there is no permanent construction in the stadium for press and commentary. In such a situation, a separate pavilion will be built in the North Block.
The West Pavilion will be renovated. So that some level and new facilities can be raised in it.

This huge stadium built on Pal Road was constructed by the then UIT President Mansingh Deora in the year 1986-87. It has a seating capacity of forty thousand spectators. Two One Day International matches have been organized in this stadium. But after the year 2002, no major match could be organized here. The biggest feature of this stadium is that it is completely built of stones. Its different aura is seen in bright sunlight from Jodhpur stones. The great cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored a century in this stadium, has been a fan of the beauty of this stadium.
