Bhestan and the other Ghordaur road belong to Panjrapole. The condition of these Panjrapole is bad.

  • Due to the apathy of the government and lack of donation, the condition of the cows in the Gaushalas is pathetic.

The Municipal Corporation has now stopped catching stray animals from the roads. Due to this, 6 to 7 animals are getting hit by vehicles every day. In these, 3-4 deaths also occur. Bhaskar found in his investigation that the condition of five gaushas (Panjrapole) keeping stray animals is pathetic. There are four branches of Shri Surat Panjrapole in the city. Of these, two are on Kamrej, one on Bhestan and one on Ghordaur road. Apart from this, there is also a Panjrapole of the Municipality. The four branches of Shri Surat Panjrapole have the capacity to hold 14000 animals. At present there are 7500 animals including 5000 cows in them.

In this, 280 are in Panjrapole of Ghordaur Road. The economic condition of these Panjrapole is bad, so now it is being considered to stop taking stray animals. They are incurring a loss of Rs 35 for one animal. Animals are also brought here after being saved from the slaughterhouse, whose number is more than 600 per month. Due to Corona, there has been a decrease in donations from people. Now help is not being given by the government and the Municipality. The condition of Manpa’s Panjrapole is even worse. There are 150 cows in the Manpa Gaushala in Bhestan, but there is a shortage of fodder. Some have plastic bags in their stomachs.

Rs 65 is being spent per day per animal
In Panjrapole, about 65 rupees are spent on an animal every day, while only 30 rupees are available. 3000 liters of milk is sold every day. In this, 20-20 liters are sent to orphanages and schools for disabled children. Apart from this, electricity bill of one lakh rupees comes per month. The state government had helped Rs 25 per animal in April, May, August, September, October and June of 2021 in the year 2020, but this service has now been stopped.

65% reduction in donations spent every month
Post-demonetisation, there was a 50 percent drop in donations to all Panjrapole. Now this decline has reached 65 percent during the Corona period. A monthly expenditure of Rs 1 crore is spent on the care of animals at Panjrapole. For donating 2000 rupees, PAN card has to be given, that’s why people don’t donate anymore. The caught cattle are dropped by the police at Panjrapole before going to the slaughter house. At present there are around 1000 such animals.

Fodder and gas plant built to save cost
Panjrapole has set up a fodder plant in Kamrej to meet the expenses. This yields 40 tonnes of fodder. 14 kg of fodder is given per animal at a time. Raw material is getting costlier due to rising diesel price. Apart from this, a biogas plant has been made to run this plant. It produces 125 kVA of electricity. Two and a half kilograms of dry fodder is given once a day in the Manpa-run Gaushala.

Daily 7 doctors do medical checkup
There is daily medical checkup of the animals of Panjrapole. 7 Doctors do routine checkups. Animals who have plastic bags in their stomachs undergo four operations every week. So far 1300 such operations have been done. At present 280 cows are pregnant. There is one delivery per day. However, there is no facility to remove the plastic bag from the stomach of the cow in Panjrapole, which is operated by the Municipal Corporation. This makes their condition worse.

request for cow adoption
Cow Adoption Adoption Scheme is run in Shree Surat Panjrapole of Ghordaur Road. 2500 rupees have to be paid for adopting a cow for one year. Before the Corona period 3000 people had adopted cows. Now this number has come down to less than 1500. The operators of Panjrapole are writing a letter to the people requesting them to adopt the cow, but people are showing less interest. Those who had adopted a cow earlier are being requested again.

Those who adopted the cow earlier, they are also not coming
Under the adoption scheme, any person can adopt a cow for a year by paying Rs 2500. After the introduction of Corona, the number of people adopting cows has reduced significantly. We are re-approaching old people for cow adoption. -Nayan Bhartiya, Trustee, Shri Surat Panjrapole
