The dumping ground built in the city is nothing less than a curse for the people living in Daddumajra. A lot of effort was made by the administration to remove the dumping ground which is becoming mountainous and for this a company was also given its work, but till now this dumping ground has not been removed by the company.
People living near the dumping ground are facing many problems.
Many leaders and officials, including Administrator VP Singh Badnore, MP Kirron Kher, had made many claims regarding the dumping ground, which proved to be air-to-air. There was a promise to remove the mountain of garbage and build a field here by May 2021, but in response to an RTI, Chandigarh Smart City Limited has told that so far the company has done only 35 percent work.
Local people say that even these figures are false. The mountain of garbage has not reduced even an inch. Now it is being said that the company has been given time till November 23, 2021 to remove this dumping ground and orders have been given to complete 100 percent work. At present, in view of the mountain of garbage, the claim of fielding here till November 23 is not being embraced by anyone.
People living near the dumping ground say that they are badly hurt by this. People say that garbage from all over the city is coming here. The amount of garbage that is cleaned is then dumped on the dumping ground. So how will this problem end? He said that the speed with which the company is working to remove the garbage from here, such a mountain of garbage will not end for many years.
He said that in March 2021, when a huge fire broke out at the dumping ground and processing plant, the entire area was filled with black smoke. The smoke had not ended for several days, which is affecting the health of the people living nearby.
Aam Aadmi Party’s Chandigarh State President Prem Garg has asked many times to lift this dumping ground. He says that this garbage mountain is full of corruption, it should be investigated and it should be found out why it is not being removed and how much has been spent on it so far.
