A vehicle thief has been arrested by the Crime Branch near Poonagam Sita Nagar Chowk. 19 bikes have been seized from him. Police have also recovered goods worth Rs 3.90 lakh from the accused. When asked the reason for stealing, the accused said that he had started stealing bikes for the education of the child. But even before this, between 2014 and 2019, 40-year-old accused Subhash alias Shubho Kishan Valvi has been caught in 15 police stations of South Gujarat including Surat for vehicle theft.
He used to steal vehicles that did not have steering lock from Ring Road Market and Smeer Hospital. So far he has stolen 10 bikes in Varachha, 3 in Poona area, 3 in Adajan, Athva and 2-2 bikes in Pandesara. Apart from this, a stolen bike has been seized in Dediapada police station in connection with the case of liquor.
The accused has three children. It has two sons and a daughter. The eldest of the three children is a 17-year-old son who is studying diploma in chem and needed money for his studies, due to which he has stolen several vehicles from Surat in the last 8 to 10 months. He wanted to sell all the vehicles by collecting them together. The accused is a tempo driver.
