More than 180 gamblers were arrested on Monday evening by the State Monitoring Cell team of Govind Patel alias Gama, who runs gambling in Manpasand Gymkhana in Mota Waghjipura in Dariapur extension of the city. After the raid, it took the police more than 24 hours to take legal action and count the money recovered.
Govind Patel had put photographs of more than 20 police officers on a wall of the fourth floor of the gymkhana, on the lines of government offices, showing his identity up to the mark. In this biggest raid in the state of Gujarat, the police have seized goods worth more than 85 lakhs.
State Monitoring Cell DYSP Jyoti Pankaj Patel along with his team moved to 7 nearby houses including the favorite gymkhana due to strict orders by state police chief Ashish Bhatia and State Monitoring Cell’s Additional Director General of Police Niraj Gotru to ban alcohol and gambling in the state. Raids were conducted on the ongoing gambling den.
During this, the police have arrested more than 180 gamblers. According to the police, Govind Patel alias Gama Khodidas Patel, the operator of Manpasand Gymkhana, along with his associates Bharat Rambhai Patel, Satish Thakkar, Shambhu Desai and Vikram Gol, was running such a large gambling den.
