The court has ordered the South Gujarat Electricity Company (DGVCL) to pay a compensation of Rs 17 lakh to a youth who was disabled by electric current 10 years ago. After the incident, the young man’s father had died of shock and his chemical business was also closed.

The youth had filed a petition in the court against DGVCL and its engineer, demanding compensation of Rs 50 lakh. After 10 years, the court ordered the payment of compensation of Rs 17 lakh. According to the case, 24-year-old Sachin Baheti, a resident of Malad East, originally came to Surat for work related to the chemical business of his father. On 20 September 2011, when he came out of Vitrag Dyeing Mill in Pandesara, the road was filled with rain water. Sachin got electrocuted near DP while passing through the water.

Sachin had said in his petition that his father was in shock after the incident. While traveling in the train, he suffered a heart attack and died. Father used to do chemical business. He used to earn up to Rs 30,000 per month. Here, after the accident I became completely handicapped and could not handle my father’s business. This closed the business. All avenues of income have been closed. I have the responsibility of four sisters along with a widowed mother.

Pet dog missing from hospital, found after 26 days, owner reached consumer forum

A family from Gopipura has approached the consumer court seeking justice for their pet dog (Naam-Jamkudi). Jamkudi fell ill two years ago and was admitted to the hospital, from where he went missing. However, he was found after 26 days. But later he died.

The family, through advocate Shreyas Desai, filed a petition against the hospital in the consumer court, seeking compensation of Rs one lakh. The Consumer Commission has given notice to the existing hospital and trustees in this case and asked them to present documentary evidence for defense by 24 September 2021. Gopipura resident Thakkar family admitted the dog to Nandini Veterinary Hostel on 9 December 2019 after falling ill.
